CASE STUDY - CHISWICK PARK AND GARDENS
Work on Chiswick House receives a BALI award

UPM Tilhill’s South East England branch worked on this prestigious project over a two-year period to help restore Chiswick House and Gardens in West London to its former glory. Their work won an award in the Hard Landscaping Construction category for contracts in excess of £1.5 million.
UPM Tilhill was appointed by English Heritage as the principal contractor for the site and work included cleaning and conservation of historic structures as well as hard and soft landscaping works, stonework, new water systems and electrical work. The team also provided new steel-framed barns, staff accommodation, composting areas and the conversion of existing stables into an education centre.
Chiswick House and Gardens were constructed in 1729 by Lord Burlington and William Kent and is the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement which inspired the great gardens of Blenheim and New York's Central Park among others.
In the 20th Century, the house and gardens came into public ownership with the house in the stewardship of English Heritage and the gardens with the London Borough of Hounslow. By the end of the 1990s the garden was falling into disrepair due to a lack of funding.
English Heritage and the London Borough of Hounslow established The Chiswick House and Gardens Trust as an independent charity to drive forward an ambitious rescue plan for the Gardens and secure its future for the 21st century.
